The Municipality of Hat Yai has opened Waste-to-Energy Power Plant purposing to solve the overflow of waste problem and to destroy the old image that Songkhla is the top province of residual waste in Thailand.
After becoming the top province where there is too much residual waste for ten years, as for today, this waste in Hat Yai district of Songkhla province shall be lined for segregation process in waste disposal plant of the Municipality of Hat Yai.
Due to the aforementioned issue, the Municipality of Hat Yai invited private sections to invest and corporate Waste-to-Energy Power Plant, with THB 850 million of budgets by producing electricity from garbage within 25 years of contract period, in order to decrease residual waste which daily increases 1,600 tons.
This power plant utilizes gasification system or heating materials for combustion controlling by oxygen humidity pressure and temperature to produce fuel gas to send electrical energy through Provincial Electricity Authority’s gridline.
Songkhla is the pilot project in relevant to waste management road map plan of the government which purpose to solve residual waste problem, to launch new waste management laws and to order Pollution Control Department to propose National Waste Management Act that within 2017, all areas are forbidden to leave garbage and there is standard waste disposal system.
Today, there are 2,400,000 tons of residual wastes in Songkhla, if the power plant is able to dispose 250 tons per day, it takes 26 years to dispose all waste in the province.
Whereas in Thailand, there 30 million of wastes but only 5 power plants in Bangkok, Phuket, Khon Kaen, Rayong and Songkhla. Pollution Control Department has followed the road map plan for waste management within 5 years period to corporate power plants in 30 provinces in order to decrease wastes and health pollution of citizens.
